My Choice...

While I DO like my Logan wing I have decided to run my World Eaters as Blood Angels.

Why???

Because I have been playing my Logan wing for a long time and I have 10 tanks sitting in my basement accruing dust... nuff said...

I have to suffer through the first two weeks but after that I go from 0 tanks to about 8-9...yeah that will be fun.

I also haven't played with my Blood Mech at over 1750 yet and I like the challenge.

Starting tommorow here is what I will be using.

Elite: 2 Blood Priests, 1 with jumpack 125pts

Troop: 10 Assault Marines w 2 melta guns and P-Fist 235pts

Troop: 10 Assault Marines w 2 melta guns and P-Fist 235pts

Troop: 10 Assault Marines w 2 melta guns and P-Fist 235pts

Heavy: Ten Devastators with 4 missile launchers

Heavy: Ten Devastators with 4 missile launchers

So I have 4 squads of two missile launchers (most of the time with FNP) and Three angry squads ready to swarm forward or counter attack when necessary.

Following the ridiculous limitations in the first two weeks This list will NOT be facing terminators, Monstrous Creatures, dreadnoughts, or super characters... the main weaknesses of the army.

Goody ^_^  two weeks of running around and then back in the tanks.

1250 + Escalation challenge: Wolves or Vampires?

So my Local hobby shop is working an escalation league over April and May which starts at 1250 and slowly works to 2000.

The set up for the first two weeks though are increadibly annoying though as the FOC is supper restricked to only max one of any chart section except for troops which can get up to three choices. i have one extra slot I can use to make me able to take an extra slot anywhere. Other rules include:

No models with more then 2 wounds (troops and Swarms are alright though)

You can be a Psyker but you cant use a power that requires a psycic test?

No 2+ or 2++ (??Poor Deathwing??)

No vehicles with Armor value over twelve on any facing. Dedicated transports are excempt to this rule. (Well there goes my Blood mech but at least I can have fun bringing 3 Landraiders with BA assault Squads Hehe)

No Monstrous Creatures ( F.U Nids and Deamons WE HATE YOU!!!)

No Special/Unique/Names Character (again i feel bad for Deathwing/ Ravenwing/Nipple Wing/ DraigoWing and all of the other fun stuff)

Now why the hell would a YTTH junky like me care at all about this and paerticipate? Because if i can make it through the first two weeks I will be fine.

Now the only question that remains is whether I want to run my World Eaters as Blood Angels or as Space Wolves. They are two entirely fun and different armies and I would love to be able to play both but I have to pick one. If i choose Blood Angels it will be Blood Mech in the end while Space Wolves will be rocking the Logan Wing.

I think I will see what I can come up with and I'll post a list soon. But if you want to give me a little encouragement in one or another direction I'll see what i can do ^_^.

What do you think is Pre Heresy???

This is nice!

Now  Here are a couple of questions I would like to hear your opinions on.

One: When you think of a Pre Heresy army what do you visualy envision? Do you want to see a themed list with only one type of units like an all Terminator army or would you rather a smorgasbord of colorful yet theme less army with as many different units as possible?

Two: The entire army will be in most cases wysiwyg but the question is how far should a person go with his counts as Pre Heresy army? This can be taken any way you want.

Three: Would using a Pre Heresy Dreadnought as a Dread Knight be going to far with the Counts As?

Four: When you think of the Pre Heresy Thousand Sons what do you envision if you fought one at a GT? What units would you expect and what kind of models would knock your socks off.

If you take the time to write your responses below it would be great.

As a word on my own projects I have a Tank body which will be built into a Pre Heresy Land Raider (just need to get a certain kind of Glue for it) and I will have two Scarab Occult Terminators painted and ready soon and will get pictures up soon.

Unexpected visit...

So last night I caught the mother of all fevers. I rarly get sick so the few times I catch anything I always end up in the loony bin. I got very little sleep as I was too busy having a serious discussion about my involvement fighting the Nazis in the Civil War with my pillow and discussing theology with my bookshelf. Yeah, thank God I have a patient mother.

It wasnt all bad though as I was hallucinating that I was talking to a couple Grey Knight and I was able to get my thoughts out on their new codex. They gave me a lot of advise ( by then the Loony bin wasn't even close to describing my predicament) and for a bunch of hallucinations weren't as grimdark as I thought they would be.

I have seen the army list for the Grey Knight and I built and tested a sample list before the fever caught me against my BloodMech and it looked like this.

Grand Master: random stuff, just wanted his "make stuff troop" ability.

5 Paladins, wound allocation stuff, FNP, psycannon

5 Terminators w psycannon, deamon hammer

5 Terminators w psycannon, deamon hammer

5 Terminators w psycannon, deamon hammer

10 Devestators w 4 psycannons

10 Devestators w 4 psycannons

Total 1850ish

It fought my  BloodMech and it was an interesting fight to say the least. It was five objective, I got a 5 on my Grandmaster roll making everything scoring and I had a good game to say the least. Psycannons are 24 inch guns so I am finding the Grey Knights to be a middle boarding army and if you can get those guns into the right places...well lets just say my wall of Armor 13 couldnt take the heat. I run Mephiston in my 1850 BloodMech and I would like to point out how annoying an entire army of force weapon weilding models can be for someone like him. I drowned the enemy with the 48 Psycannon rounds my army drops, it really is scary. Watch out Bully, these guys really hate us.

ThoughI have to say... Paladins aren't anywhere near what I was looking forward to. They are OK in combat but SUCK when being shot at. I say they are ok in combat because at the price of the unit it is swinging with two str 4 power weapon attacks each, they have FNP ( but anyone trying to kill them will be using power weapons or Ap 2 weapons anyway). For what they cost I'm actually afraid of Thunder Hammer and Storm Shield Terminators fighting these guys. And no the "2++ in combat" is too expensive to be worthwhile.

The one true weakness of the Grey Knights is that they die just like marines when shot. Thats the big difference though with a standard Grey Knight armed with a power weapon and a stormbolter only being 20pts I dont think this is going to be as "super elite" as people say. I took terminators due to keeping my Thousand Sons fluff but each of thouse squads could turn into 10 more Grey Knight combat squading with double the Psycannon hate. The price of the Paladins could give me 20 more Grey Knights on top of that. Thats 50 more body and 64 Psycannon shots!!!

Elite army my butt. ^_^

Wow... Where have I been?

Goodness, It feels like I have been gone for a year and a halve.

Where was I...

Well life caught up with me and I just couldn't think about war games for a few months.

But now that is over and I am back O beloved interwebs. And just in time for my new project,

Pre Heresy for the WIN!

Yes I am now working on a Pre Heresy Thousand Sons force based on the war of Prospero!
With the Grey Knight codex coming I thought I would try to paint something new and not as gory as my World Eaters. I find their background tragic and interesting and I would love to be able to represent them on my tables. I also can find background and a few models people have made of them but have yet to see a full army built around them. This I wish to change with my project.

Over the summer I intend to have a full army with units such as.

Ahriman/ Keeper of the Book of Magnus

Scarab Occult Terminators/ will be the core of the army

Pre Heresy Thousand Sons/ PA Grey Knights

Pre Heresy Dreadnought/ Not sure wether this will be a Dreadknight or a normal dreadnought

Maybe Prospero PDF in the form of henchmen/ not likly

Land Raider/ If I have the points

Detailed background Army List with pictures and artwork depicting the Prospero campaign.

This should keep me busy for the summer. I am looking forward to seeing how this turns out. I know my first two test models are looking wonderful and I still am waiting for the arival of some Chapterhouse toys I ordered.

What can you expect? The usual me as I take the Grey Knight Codex apart and explain my thoughts about it. I will go over what I think works and honestly doesn't while I bring the ancient sons of Magnus to life on the table.

From dust the ancient memories rise

Round Three... Storm Ravens

This was the most interesting list. It almost won the tournament as well. At the last round all he needed was to not roll a one on a difficult terrain check for the Death company dreadnought which unfortunatly the dice gods decided to side with his enemy.

This list came straight out of Left Field, I didnt see it coming.

HQ: Chaplain w combi melta

Troop: 9 Death Company (a mesh of Fists and P-Weapons)

Troop: Death Company Dreadnought with Talons

Elite: Furioso Dreadnought

Storm Raven w Multi melta, Assault Cannons, and Blood Missiles (Held a lone furioso)

Storm Raven w Multi melta, Assault Cannons and Blood Missiles (held Death company models)

Look at it for a second... he has no scoring units. So how did he win the First Game? Oh yeah, he tabled his first opponent, Guard, the only guy who had more vehicles than me. The second game he tabled a Chaos army. And now I had to smack him... or at least thought I could.

This game had both of us making big mistakes and paying for it but I'll explain that in a moment.

It was Annihilation/ pitched battle and he won to deploy first. I held my army in reserve. He took his first two turns to move right into the center of my lines, literally back to back and waited for me. I rolled for my tanks and got all but a baal. I was just going to move onto the board, shoot the Ravens and run the hell away,  that was my game plan. Then my dice failed and I only killed the Death company Raven. ( Damn the Dice God's!!!) He responds by getting out of the ravens and rushing out to try to kill my stuff. He killed the baal, one predator and tore the Lascannons off of the Razor backs. He forgot to charge the Dreads though. That was his mistake.

My turn I made a mistake. I got the last baal and should have just ran away from his list, killing the raven and popping the dreads from a distance for the win. I though I was hot stuff though and decided to try my luck. The furioso was on one side of the board while the Death Company models were on the other, I got my melta gun guys out of their razor backs and opened fire. two melta guns hit, two penetrate, roll a 1 and a 2. All I did was tear an arm off and condemn one of my assault squads to die. I did kill the Raven though. On his turn the dread ate the squad. I responded by finaly shooting the thing dead and by then the game ended on turn 5.

A draw...

It was a good game though, I really didnt expect this at all. It has the punch to kill stuff and at 1000pts gives alot of armies hard times shooting down armor 12 anti melta flyers...then the Dreads and the Company eat you.

And about the Storm raven model... well I think having one on the board looks like a flying piece of Thunderhawk crap. Two though...that makes it look a little better I have to say, I think three would look obnoxious though. Just saying.

Round two and why battle pointless games are better.

Well after my first turn round I was able to get my stuff together, grab a pepsi (the fuel I live on) and go play my second round opponent. He was 12 and just started to play 40k maybe 3 months ago. His list was something like this.

HQ: Chaplain w Jumpack and combi melts

5 Sanguinary guard w 1 powerfist and chapter banner.

5 Assault Marines with power fist

5 Death company w Lamartes and Thunder hammer.

5 scouts with snipers and a missile launcher

You know that feeling when you just dont want to upset a child, yeah, that was me. I even felt it coming from the regulars at the store. Here I was, a random player who showed up randomly, playing the newest young customer who barely knew what he was doing. It was a setting for disaster. In that battle force style army I saw my next victory, no way to escape that. But I also saw in those young eyes, excited to play with his favorite models that he so prided himself on, I saw myself.

I remember the first few games I played in 4-5 years ago. I played Foot Eldar. (wow such memories) Oh how I loved setting up my favorite models, wraithlords, dark reapers, and swooping hawks. I had such aspirations in my first tournament. One game against a jerk threw me right off track. It was a battle points game and all he wanted was the extra 5pts for his overall score and tabled me by turn four. However there was no battle points in this tourney, the game was capture and control / Dawn of War, I resolved to make the new recruit have a good time, and learn some lessons.

He won to deploy first, then set his Death Company, assault squad, and Chaplain forward. I in turn didn't deploy to his amazement. I explained how It profited my mech army to be able to advance as one in the first turn and I didn't want to strand my troops in front of his models. Turn one he advanced and his Sanguinary guard were running after them. I zoomed into perfect position for the next turn blood bath. I explained the importance of cover and what to expect with my guns. He had resolved to punch my tanks in with Fists and Hammers. He moved forward and prepared to take the fight to me. My turn was a laying down of fire power that saw most of the units burn. Lamartes and his thunderhammer buddy, the Chaplain, and the Power Fist San guard were left. He had his chance.

Turn two he fired into one of the predators with his sniper scouts and actually killed a predator with a bullet to the fuel gauge. Wow, didn't see that coming. The Thunder Hammer shook a baal and the Chaplain popped a razorback with the combi melta. That was great! I gave the kid a High Five and many of the older players praised the kid for the amount of carnage raged against a tank army using only powerfists. A number of my tanks moved fast as well. It was a lucky shot that made it not a one sided death fest.

How my tanks were in charge range I'll just never know *wink*

The next turn I killed the few models left in my half and he only had an assault squad for the rest of the game ending with me holding my objective and contesting his.

Now if that was a Battle point game I cant say for certain how nice I would have been able to be for the sake of the overall score. Now that this game was only a win, lose or draw game I was able to teach the kid and have a fun time with him. Instead of making the kid hate that game he had a lot of fun... and I didn't feel like a jerk. Win, Win I guess.
